Welcome!

Interactive courses on this site are offered free of charge as a public benefit for design and engineering professionals specializing in sustainable design for K-12 schools. High performance school design integrates daylighting, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency to build a school that runs efficiently, saves money, protects natural resources, and provides superior visual, acoustical, and thermal comfort.

High Performance School Operations and Maintenance

After a school has been designed and constructed to be healthy and sustainable, it then
must be maintained and operated for continued high performance. The latest manual from the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) provides guidance in this important aspect of high performance schools. To download a copy of the CHPS Best Practices Manual Volume IV, please visit
www.chps.net . Three of the chapters have been added to this online training: Building Envelope, Electrical Systems and Lighting, and HVAC and Mechanical Equipment.

The training program was developed by a NYSERDA project team consisting of NYSERDA staff and five organizations at the forefront of high performance school design:

  • The Collaborative for High Performance Schools
  • The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council
  • Building Media, Inc.
  • The New Jersey Institute of Technology
  • Eley Associates
